  Archaeological Area

Mythical place where it is said it existed the encounter among the light and the darkness, the good god and the bad god, Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca. It is the most legendary city, in which settled down the Toltec culture that dates to the year 713 A.D., one of the most important cultures in the prehispanic period.

Atlantes

Preserved by the big Toltec warriors called Atlantes, worked in basaltic stone 4.8 meters high, it is said that these giants sustain the roof of the adoring temple dedicated to Quetzalcóatl.

Palacio Quemado
Beautiful vestige of this culture, it is a building in whose facade you can observe priests' or governor’s figures that seem they go in line.

Ball Game
One of the distractions of this culture was the famous ball game, ritual called tlachtli or tlaxco where the Toltec culture proved the strength and the ability of its warriors where the prize to the winner was the death.

Origins
The name Tula comes from the náhuatl root Tollan "beside the Tular". In otomi its name was namenhi that means "place with many people". Its current name is Tula, already hispanicized, and it means place of tulles or esparto, beside or closer the Tular.
Founded after Teotihuacan was destroyed, today it is known by its main pyramid Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli, or the morning star temple in which peak rises the famous Tula Atlantes. Statues 4,6 meters high, representations of Toltec gods that is believed were the pillars of a wooden roof in the temple. You will be able to climb this pyramid to observe closely the Atlantes and to appreciate the whole archaeological complex. It is worthwhile to mention that only some of these statues have resisted the time contingency, that’s why several of them have been rebuilt.
About other Tula constructions maybe the most interesting is Coatepantli or wall of the snakes whose name comes from reliefs in the north face of the pyramid that shows snakes devouring human beings. Closer, in front of the Palacio Quemado, the Chacmool is located, it is a figure of a lean priest in whose chest is a recipient where the offerings to the gods were deposited.
